Reimagine Pleasant Oak Park!

Join us in crafting a park where culture thrives,
inclusivity blooms, and nature inspires us all.

The Town of Windsor is developing a Master Plan for Pleasant Oak Park (renamed David Smith Memorial Park).
This plan will identify opportunities to expand inclusive recreation amenities, enhance natural features, and celebrate the Town’s indigenous history.

The draft concept plan for Pleasant Oak Park is ready for review and feedback!

Come check out the plan and watch this video walk-through here!

After reviewing the preliminary park concept and/or watching the video, let us know your thoughts about the design! Fill out the feedback form to submit comments to the project team.

  • Drawing from the community input received from the online survey and Round 1 community events, the project team has developed a draft park concept plan for future enhancements. Community members could review the concept and provide feedback at two events:

    (Wednesday, 9/11) Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

    (Wednesday, 9/18) Pop-Up Party in the Park, 4:30 p.m.

For those that missed these, you can also watch the video walk through and share your feedback on this form.

  • The first round of community outreach for this project was conducted in May 2024, and we received excellent feedback! Over 400 community members participated in outreach activities such as pop-up events, community meetings, and an online survey. According to participants, the park is a valued public resource needing improvement in a variety of areas. Key themes identified during Round 1 outreach are inclusivity, accessibility, safety, play, nature, and shade. The community strongly supports upgrading and/or expanding the playgrounds, picnic areas, pathways, and natural features at the park.

A Community Gem

Pleasant Oak Park (renamed David Smith Memorial Park) is an 8.5-acre park located between Old Redwood Highway and Sugar Maple Lane next to Mattie Washburn Elementary School in the Town of Windsor. It features a nature conservation area, playground, picnic area, and dog play area, plus pathways, lawns, and mature trees.

The Park Has a New Name!

On April 17, 2024, the Town Council approved the renaming of the park to David Smith Memorial Park in memory of local Pomo tribe member and cultural teacher, David Smith, who had a lasting impact on the Windsor community through his music, dance, storytelling, and leadership. A formal renaming ceremony hosted by the Town will be held at the park on Friday, May 10.

We want to hear from you!

The success of the project relies on the involvement of community members to craft a vision for the park that best serves the Town of Windsor and its residents. A series of virtual and in-person community activities will be held throughout 2024 to collect input and keep the public informed.
